  • How is coaching different from other approaches? (e.g. mentoring or therapy)
Some people may confuse coaching with mentoring or therapy and, whilst there is some crossover there is distinct differences. Mentoring: a long-term partnership focussed on a desire to gain knowledge/ wisdom that will hopefully lead the individual towards specific objectives. A mentor will typically have knowledge/experience they can share with the mentee to promote shared learning. Counselling/Therapy: a long-term partnership focussed on the past in treating trauma and/or mental illness. If during the coaching, we identify that mentoring or therapy would be beneficial to you, then together we will decide on the best way forward. This might involve pausing the coaching and picking up again at a later point.
  • How will the coaching take place?
Coaching sessions might take place virtually or in - person. This can be discussed and agreed during an introductory call. To optimise each coaching session, the coach and coachee should ensure their environment is safe, confidential and comfortable to engage in the coaching conversation.
  • How are sessions typically structured?
With the exception of the first session (see below), you can expect a similar flow. We’ll start by ‘checking in’, exploring what’s been going on since the last session and what progress has been made. We’ll explore the session outcome, before getting stuck into the coaching. The session will typically finish with some reflection time, so that you have clarity on next steps/actions before the next session.
  • What can you typically expect from the first coaching session?
Getting to know each other. Contracting (ground rules e.g. confidentiality and boundaries) Information gathering (your background, work, life, past coaching experience) Agreeing areas of focus and future visioning +6/8 months Discussion on coaching structure and session planning Starting the coaching
